Chest tattoo design check: Collarbones & pectoral flow

The chest is a broad, curved, dynamic surface. A design must warp around collarbones and pec contours. Let's look at chest placement rules.

Why chest placement is complex

The chest moves constantly with breathing and arm action. Flat circles or horizontal grids placed on the chest will warp into ovals and crooked lines when you stand naturally. Symmetry across the breastbone is difficult to balance, and outline weight must adapt to the underlying bone shape.

  • Geometric elements must center exactly on the sternum.
  • Design wings or flow lines should curve upward toward the shoulders.
  • Check how the layout warps when arms are raised vs at your side.

Physical warping guidelines

Skin stretches. Muscles contract. Here is how to verify alignment of any body placement stencil:

  • Joint Clearance: Do not place complex micro-details inside bending creases (wrists, elbows, collarbones).
  • Center Grids: Symmetry lines must align when standing in a relaxed posture, not when lying flat on the stencil table.
  • Muscle Wrap: Outlines must follow the natural curves of the muscle groups rather than running horizontally.
