Tattoo line density & spacing checklist

Go through these spacing rules to ensure your drawing outlines have sufficient separation.

Completion Checklist0 of 5 checked
Ensure all parallel linework clusters have at least 1.5mm gap clearance.
Verify lowercase font loops ('e', 'a', 'o') are open and not filled with shading dots.
Identify micro feathers, hair strands, or ornaments: simplify or expand nested spacing.
Look for black gradients: confirm negative space skin breaks are built in to maintain contrast.
Ask to see the raw blueprint lines instead of a shaded color digital render.

Why utilize preparation tools?

Tattooing is a highly collaborative process. By entering the studio with structured checklists, technical questions, and polite messages, you help your artist prepare the perfect stencil and ensure the design holds its shape over the years.

  • Polite phrasing: respects artists' space while requesting edits clearly.
  • Proactive checkpoints: spots line density problems before the needle starts.
  • Long-term protection: matches margins to biological skin conditions.
